The Bakehila Organization influences the reality of lives
for thousands of at-risk children in Israel

Who are we?

Each year, Bakehila changes the social reality for thousands of children in disadvantaged neighborhoods- both Arabs and Jews. The organization aims to interrupt the poverty cycle and reduce inequalities. Bakehila does so through integrative educational programs, entrepreneurship, and community involvement. As a result, Bakehila is cultivating the next generation of young leaders in Israeli society.

What we do

Learning environment

We believe in supporting students at their schools and complementary informal education programs to improve their learning experience and retention as an essential piece in a multi-prong approach for reducing inequalities.

Community

Being that the community itself is an integral influence on the growth and development of each child, their environment is a crucial center for activity.

Gap year enrichment program

As part of building the next generation of leaders in Israel, each week our gap year volunteers benefit from a day of supplemental courses of enrichment, based on their interests.

Arab society

As a part of our approach of equality in education, of acknowledging others by coexistence, we believe that each person deserves an equal opportunity regardless of religion, race, or gender and enact a policy of inclusion.

Gap Year

Participants describe their gap year as an extremely empowering, formative experience. That said, our perspective is one of continued engagement, with the gap year as the first meaningful milestone to further engagement in such work for our volunteers. To facilitate their continued dedication to involvement in the community and justice work, we offer our alumni a variety of programs.
