In addition to learning assistance, the year-in-service
volunteers are involved 4 hours a week in social activities in each of the
schools. Through this involvement, the year-in-service volunteers meet children
from all age groups and become part of the day to day school life. The
activities are in various arenas; in most of the schools the volunteers accompany
the student body and help them with special projects they initiate. Also, the
volunteers run social activity classes in a variety of topics. They assist the
students with school and community initiatives such as the school newspaper or
volunteering in the local kindergartens. And of course the volunteers are an inseparable
part of the organization and execution of key events in the school: end of year
celebrations, Jerusalem Day, holidays, ceremonies and Memorial Day events.
