In
the morning hours (8:00 – 13:30) Shinshinim work as assistant teachers
in the classroom (generally for grades five through eight). Their role is to
strengthen learning skills and aid scholastic performance by providing students
with continuous positive reinforcement. Learning takes place in small groups in
the classroom. This program focuses on
the three core subjects: math, English and Hebrew.
Intensive “Learning Marathons” are
held twice a year (for two weeks) to assist weak students narrow educational
gaps.
Bakehila operates a unique educational
program for students in Grades 5-8 from weak socioeconomic backgrounds in order
to strengthen their learning skills and to improve their scholastic
performance. This is run together with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry
of Social Affairs and Social Services, the SHAHAR (Educational and Welfare Services) Department of the Ministry of Education and the Jerusalem Education Authority (MANHI) of the
Jerusalem Municipality.
